Vegan Strawberry (?) Cupcakes with Fudge Frosting

Not being the best baker in the world, I have no idea why I thought I could pull off vegan cupcakes. But, I made these for G2's birthday and G3 and I had did have a lot of fun making them.
Here is the recipe I used from a vegan cup cake site: Strawberry Cupcakes. It made 18 cupcakes. The batter looked strawberry, but tasted like banana bread.
I have no idea why...as far as I know, no bananas were included. Unless Graham threw them in while I wasn't looking. He can be crafty like that. I halved the recipe for the fudge frosting. It was super grainy. I guess I should have cooked it to dissolve the sugar. I did try to microwave it, which made it thinner, but still grainy. I dipped the cupcake tops in the bowl of icing and then let them set up in the fridge. One bonus of egg-less batter was licking the beaters. Something I did all through my childhood, but thanks to that pesky micro-science, I guess my kids will be lacking that memory. (Well, and Salmonella. We hope).
Everyone at dinner (who happened to be family) ate the cupcakes. I'm pretty sure more out of obligation than anything. G2 and Graham liked them okay but we won't be making them again. I guess we get a V for vegan effort.
