Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law gave me Bourbon Madagascar vanilla beans for my birthday, so I decided to put one to good use and make some ice cream today. The beans are so good...they are huge and my entire spice cabinet smells like vanilla! For the ice cream I used:

1 cup heavy cream
2 cups whole milk
1 cup skim milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 vanilla bean

I put the dairy and sugar in a sauce pan and started heating on low. I split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scraped the seeds out of the middle to add to the pot. I also threw the bean in, but only for a few minutes. It got really vanilla-y really fast! After I removed the bean, I took it off the heat and poured it back into the glass measuring cup. I put it in the fridge to cool, then added it to my electric ice cream maker. My dad got it for me for Christmas a few years ago and I really don't use it enough. I plan to change that this summer! I moved it to a container and let it set up a bit more in the freezer. The ice cream is delicious! It tastes like snow cream. The Grahams agree.
