To Meat or Not to Meat

My husband is a vegetarian and has been for over 20 years. I was at one point in my life, but now I eat fish and occasionally poultry. I don't really ever cook meat, though, since G2 doesn't eat it and I'm fine without it. We're at a bit of a standstill on what to do with Graham on this issue. We don't want to force vegetarianism on him, but it's sort of a natural happening since we don't usually have meat around here. My biggest concern with him eating meat would probably be the growth hormones and antibiotics he's sure to ingest along with it. I'm not too worried about him not getting enough protein, I try to make sure we have that part covered. And it's not too hard to achieve with dairy and eggs. All that said, I also didn't want Graham to try meat without us around and have some weird reaction. So, he had some fish last night. G2 was out of town, so I made some wild mahi mahi. I made a simple marinade of soy sauce, olive oil, ginger and lemon and broiled it. I accidentally over-cooked it a little since I was worried about it being under-cooked for the baby (probably also because I rarely cook it!).

He ate it. I don't know that he liked it any more than the broccoli, or more exciting, the whole brown rice (that was also a first). He seemed to really enjoy feeding himself the rice with his spoon. Fun! I guess I need to talk to some other parents that are vegetarian and see how it works out with their kids.
